Dolphins!

Zadar is a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site partially because of the city fortifications from 15th and 17th centuries. It’s one of the must see places in Croatia. We did all we were expected to, looked at the cathedral, sat and listened to the sea organ ( pipes that have air forced through them by the waves) wandered around the old town narrow streets. All these old streets looked like buildings from the 60’s. They might have been because the Allied forces destroyed 80% of the city in 1943- 1944 with continuous bombing and massive amounts of casualty, one for the first buildings we destroyed was an orphanage.

The second full day we got a boat to Kornati national park. This is a series of islands, we went armed with binoculars but saw no birds other than gulls. The boat included two stops, one where we duly walked around the beach area, the second we walked around the salt lake and up onto the cliffs for the stunning views. The whole day was very pleasant, although out at sea it was very cold, and we skirted around a storm that was displaying for us on the mainland. The highlight of course was the dolphins. First spot a shadow, then some fins, then them prancing around in the bow wave. All too soon they departed, but it made my day.

The site was another huge, all facilities site, where you look out of you van at rows of other vans. It seems to be the main sort here that take motorhomes although as campsites are expensive we are favouring these big ones due to our discount card.
