Winchester (Micheldever)

Rolex (fake or real?), Mercedes convertibles, diamond eternity rings, designer clothes and hair are the norm around here. Lots of the footpaths here are along the bottom of gardens, with the binoculars you can just about see the house. I felt totally outclassed in my scruffy t-short and faded shorts. We found a pub voted as the best pub by CAMRA. The pub had built a bar in the car park; cubicles with seats and tables and provided table service from great friendly staff. we simply had to give them our hospitality a couple of times. We cycled to Winchester, the home of King Alfred. John went in the Great Hall and saw the Arthurian round table, I stay outside and did some home admin sat in the sun. Seemed a fair arrangement to John. (I saw the Great Hall a few years ago and decided to save the money). We didn’t go in the cathedral as it was £10 a person but sat in the gardens and admired it from the outside. What I admired much more was the wedding party, top hat and tails, white dress etc, sat on picnic blankets in the cathedral grounds. They weren’t going to let a pandemic get in their way. My guess is their marriage will last! Winchester is a lovely little town and we thoroughly enjoyed our wander even if at many points we didn’t feel safe as it was too busy to keep the 2 metre rule of Covid prevention. The site was nice, quiet and well maintained. The toilet was closed due to Covid but that didn’t worry us. It was typically UK expensive at £20 a night.
