Wildhaus
· Switzerland
Having got the holes in Bertie fixed in Germany we returned to Switzerland because, well lets face it, Switzerland is beautiful.
Wildhaus is in the canton of St. Gallen in a pass that bears it’s name. It is a ski resort but given that the temperature was in the high 20’s while we were there the only snow was in crevices on the peaks. Those said peaks tower over the lush green valley, where at this time of year silage is being gathered. This is once again walking and cycling country so that is what we did. One day we cycled over the border to Liechtenstein (see Liechtenstein post).
We stayed at 2 places in Wildhaus, a nice campsite (26CHF) and the central village car park (5CHF).
This is one of the few times were I really disliked being on a budget. One of the things to do in Wildhaus is take the chair lift to the top of Santis (2501.9m) where you can see 6 countries. It’s supposed to be stunning, however at 58CHF (about £50) per person we decided to give that a miss and John thought I was being too ambitions when I said we could do the 4 hour steep up hill walk.
We drove through Austria to get here, but I don’t think 45 minutes in a country were you don’t stop can be counted as a country visited.
