Todtnau
· Germany
In the Black Forest sits Todtnau, a ski area in winter, in summer a walkers’ paradise. We did a walk to the Todtnau water falls, an impressive cascade of water tumbling down rocks. It’s not a huge body of water nor a single drop but I loved the broken falls causing a lively show of water.
The second walk we did was a indirect route to the top of Hasenhorn. This walk took us past some tree felling, they stopped work to let us pass. We had to climb over felled trees and after we had past they continued with the effect of a tree falling right over the path we had just walked. My image of Germany doesn’t fit with this as I would have expected warning signs, closed paths anything but climbing over freshly cut trees and a hope the work gang stops as we pass rather than dropping a tree on us.
Anyway back to the top of Hasenhorn where our walk finished and the start of a 2K “toboggan” ride. Fantastic, or at lease the first half was, frustratingly I caught up the person in front and had slow down on the 2nd half but well worth the €5 and the hour queue.
The weather has broken after the heat wave of last week, we have drizzle and low clouds – and the black forest looks very BLACK in this light.
Site was a stellplatz, basically a gravel motorhome car park set in the trees, just off the main road. €10 + 2 for electric.
