Tel Aviv
· Israel
The main reason for coming here is that our eldest son lives here. And now the blog site needs renaming as we are not in Europe nor in the motorhome. Tel Aviv is a very modern city. Our apartment was about 5 mins from the beach and the port. John and I are a little old for Tel Aviv, I don’t know what they do with their elderly but you seem to have to be 30 or younger in the city. We wandered around the new bits of town, and the old bits , the beach and the park. I got more blisters on my feet than I did doing the Pennine way. The temperature was rather nice at about 29, the sort of temperature I love.
Cycle paths abound in Tel Aviv along which scooters and electric bike (not pedal assisted ones) speed past incredibly fast. It appears there are no speed limiters on these machines. The beaches all say no swimming as there are no life guards, going so far as to try to enforce this with tape and flags along the sea edge. The life guards remind you at regular intervals that you cannot swim as they are not there! As I was told the signs, flags and taped are for decoration only. The beach even has sections where you cannot swim due to rocks etc (devoid of swimmers), surfing areas and swimming areas, all taped off. Food is easy for veggies here. Kosher pizza place was our first meal, but salad is the main food. At one restaurant we had 20 types of salad with our falafel. Hummus of course is nothing like Tesco’s – much creamer and nicer. It was great to have the four of us together even if Matthew was working during the day. We will be back, in about 2 weeks time!
