Swanage

· England

Just for a change we have ended up in Swanage. We looked at other places, but well, it’s Swanage. The campsite we stayed on is mega expensive in summer. I once rang for prices and decided a luxury apartment in the Caribbean would be cheaper. It’s not mega expensive in winter. I’m finding this a lot with bigger sites. We chose this one because it had a swimming pool, buses to Poole and Bournmouth directly outside the site entrance and walking distance to Swanage. Oh and it was open, which our favourite site wasn’t along with almost every other site in the area. I expected too much from the site, the toilets were long in the tooth, the bar didn’t have a pool table, the swimming pool closed at 3pm (I wanted to use it in the evening) and the chain ferry was closed for its two week maintenance which meant the buses weren’t straightforward.

I love Purbeck and we had a good chance to see it off season. We had a look at a few houses, nothing serious. Spent a lot of time discussing the pros and cons of moving down to Swanage. We did lots of walks, a few cycle rides, too much eating, it was too cold for picnics. We had a picnic on Dancing ledge of course, with the rock pipits begging food from us. We didn’t go down to the ledge as we were the only people around and John had already fallen once, but enjoyed watching the waves that were covering the ledge. We walked the coast path, the mud made it like an ice rink, great fun on a cliff edge. I’m now living in dreamland, when we look seriously at moving here that dream will be shattered, but what is life without dreams.
