Sulzemoos (Munich)
· Germany
We parked at a motorhome shop. A very large motorhome shop that has 30 spaces for overnight parking. The parking is free, you pay for electricity and water. We spent 30 mins looking around the accessories part of the shop, but we didn’t get to look at any motorhomes as we arrived 30 minutes before it closed for the weekend. Germany closes on Sunday. On Sunday we donned the waterproofs and headed by bus and tube to the centre of Munich. We had to go on Sunday, there is a transport strike on Monday, so that is Britain, France , Germany and Israel all striking at the moment. We arrived in the centre of Munich and realised we hadn’t done any reading up on the city. We emerged from a randomly picked tube station into an elaborate square of ornate buildings and churches. After taking a few (hundred) snaps of the square we stood in the rain trying to read tourist information on the phone, this was the point where we decided lunch in a cafe was called for. Germany does snack lunches just like the UK. With lunch complete and stomachs full we headed around the main sites, the cathedral, the town hall with a beautiful mechanical clock, the gardens, along the river, the town gates, just like a tourist trying to do a city in an afternoon.
The weather has changed from acceptable spring to unacceptable spring, so the hats, gloves and thermals have been put to good use. It’s due to snow in the next few days and we are heading for Austrian ski resorts, those winter tyres that cost so much and have caused so much trouble may be tested, although we are more likely to park up and batten down if the snow does fall.
