Stage 6 Elslack to Malham
· Pennine Way
Gentle day, through low lying farm land. Lots of pushing through cows today, it’s amazing how they always stand around the gate and just look at you with disgust as you “cush” them out of the way. Lovely to see the hills of the dales approaching. The geology by the end of the walk certainly had the dales feel I know and love. Bits of this walk we actually met people particularly as we neared Malham. Of course we meet other Pennine walkers, they are nearly always lone walkers carrying huge rucksack. One young woman has passed us so many times staggering under her rucksack , she does seem to take the wrong path a lot. We met a nice couple at a style, struggling to get their legs over, just out for a 10 mile stroll at 82! I so hope I’m still walking at 82.
Foot wise mine are stable, but John’s toe is now quite bad and the compeeds aren’t staying in place. My sphincter muscle continues to have to work harder than normal.
Tempest Arms Elslack. Modern purpose built hotel tacked onto an old pub. Modern big rooms, good food, although slow service. It got everything right, yet somehow I didn’t like it!
