Stage 5 Stanbury to Elslack

· Pennine Way

Chasing across the moor desperate to reach Scotland, in need of a bed for the night went Bonnie Prince Charlie when he came across the Eagle Inn. The people remained silent so you now have “The Old Silent Inn”.

And this is where we started the day. This day does the Aire gap which links the South Pennines with Yorkshire Dales. It’s a roller coasters day. Much lower than the last few days but constantly up and down. The scenery is more gentle, not much of the bleak moors and a lot more farm tracks and paths, but still wild. We didn’t meet many people. We did stop at a pub much needed as the day was beautifully warm. This day was hard despite being short, if you call just over 13 miles short.

My feet are holding up well, but John’s are causing some concern. John’s mood is good as England just won at football while I write this.

Old Silent Inn – nice pub, fake beams and fires. Bedroom small but comfy. Food good.
