Stage 4 Hebden Bridge to Stanbury
· Pennine Way
…I walked as if for a wager, mile after mile, till a turn brought me in view of the Heights; but no Catherine could I detect, far or near. (Emily Brontë).
Sunday we spent relaxing in vibrant Hebden Bridge. Very different from what I remember. If you’re veggie this is the place to eat. Monday saw us back on the trail, starting with the steep dog poo ridden steps out of town up to Heptonstall. Here you find cobbled streets and ruined church, you can imagine yourself in the past. Out onto the moors we stopped at “Mays shop” which advertises it sells owt you want. It didn’t do decaf coffee or compeed.
Over the moors past , down to a beautiful valley and back to moors. More reservoirs. Lots and lots of lapwings in this area. Eventually you come to Howarth moor and the house that is not Wuthering Heights, then drop down to Ponden reservoir, before leaving the path to get to the B&B.
My blister seems stable not sure about Johns they may be worse. I purchased some new insoles in Hebden Bridge and I can’t decide if they have helped my heel or not. But today I had an extra issue, I was still suffering from a stomach bug/food poisoning and that made for some uncomfortable moments.
Hebden town house B&B review- recently done up, modern big rooms, with comfy bed, ruined only by being on the main road next to noisy pub. Breakfast was continental but plenty of it.
