Stage 15 Slaggyford to Greenhead

· Pennine Way

We expected this day to be easy – only 11.5 miles and it started that way with the walking across fiddly fields, as our guide book calls them. They do seem fiddly after the great expanses of moors that we have been doing. Of course after the fields we had moors, this is the Pennine Way after all. What we hadn’t allowed for was that these moors are boot sucking bogs, with every step your boot sinks into the mud and you have to pull it out with a pop. It’s gets tiring. Also John has discovered that his one year old boots leak! Luckily not much. The path is barely walked here and easy to lose, we ended up not following any path but walking to the sat nav. On the moors the cloud and the rain came down so no views today, I suspect these would have been rather nice.

Fell View B&B Slaggyford- lovely place, recently refurbished only two rooms. Greeted with tea and cakes. The hosts were the right amount of chatty and left us alone at the right time. Very well cooked food, although we had to choose weeks ago. Only downside was no tea facilities or TV in the room. The tea facilities were just in the hall outside the room so only problem was going out to them in my pyjamas. The TV was more of an issue, England were in the Euros final and that had to be watched in the communal lounge so John couldn’t shout and I couldn’t fall asleep.
