Split

· Croatia

Split town is an interesting mix of modern houses juxtapositioned with old. You will have an arch of some old building acting as the buttress of a new building, and even have new buildings on top of old buildings. You have ruins in the cathedral square mixed in with modern buildings, and restaurants have made use of a shell of a house to use the view out to sea. It’s a nice town to wander around on a warm spring day. Lots of people told me Split is really nice and I can see why people would like it. On a hot summers evening it will be a fantastic place to wander around hand in hand with your loved one.

We’d thought we would get a boat to the island but we couldn’t find one that was running at a sensible price, so instead we planned a walk into the hills, however the thunder gods decided to put on a show, and I’m not keen on being on top of hills when lightning is all around, so we made use of the campsite spa facilities and did a short walk along the coast once the storm had passed.

We were on another ACSI site at €23 a night, a bus ride away from Split. Looking past the vans and through the trees you could see the sea. Interesting site in that it is on a peninsular with the restaurant at the head so the site faces onto two bays.
