We stayed here for 4 nights. This is because we were expecting the wheel nuts from Cambridgeshire on 24 hours express service. When the delivery date came up as next Tuesday we decided to abandon the wheel nuts, particularly as we have sourced some already in France. UPS I have to say were appalling when we tried to rearrange delivery, I’ll never use them again.
We walked into Metz, a nice town with a huge cathedral which I thought was rather nice, even more so having just read a fiction book on building cathedrals. And we did a museum which was very extensive, lots of good Roman stuff , particularly on aqueducts, including a fascinating pump that was used. On the following day we did a walk into the hills, testing our leg muscles which haven’t had this much exercise for age. We walked around lots of old forts from around 1880’s. This area was fought over for years. And on the final full day we cycled along the Moselle to the aqueduct described in the museum and beyond turning around and retracing our wheels after watching a large barge navigate a dock. The car on the back of the barge looks tiny compared to the boat. A pleasant stop but way too long so the next stop is 6 hours drive away.
