Schonach
· Germany
Schonach is near the tourist trap of Triberg. Triberg being recommended in a few travel guides. Schonach is a petty little town with a small lake/big pond at it’s centre. It has a natural swimming pool that is free to use but this was rather green and I decided not to take the plunge.
From here we did a beautiful walk to Triberg through a mixture of forest alive with flight of small birds along the path and flower covered meadows constantly on the move with an array of fluttering of butterflies. Triberg is famous for having Europe’s longest waterfall, although as it is a cascade of smaller waterfalls down the hill side the claim of the longest is disputed. It also costs to see these waterfalls if you enter via the main paths. The excitement of the day was spotting my first Nutcracker. The town is tourist gift shops where you can pay €9990 for a cuckoo clock if you are so inclined.
The site was a stellplatz – motor home car park, (€7) with the silliest service area I have had the displeasure to use, you have to buy tokens from the tourist office (so don’t arrive out of hours) , once the token is inserted you select your program and it opens the appropriate cubicle (one clean, one dirty) where can just about get your toilet cassette into it to empty. I never did work out how you emptied the grey tank, luckily we didn’t need to.
