Schluchsee
· Germany
Schluchsee as the names says is by a lake and in the black forest. We walked the 19K around the lake and a pleasant walk it was, and I got super excited as the steam train was running. I really must buy myself a small train when I get home.
The reason for coming here was to go to Titisee, a lake a short cycle ride away, it’s in all the guide books, so we duly cycled passed Windgfällweiher, a small but pretty lake, on to the tourist trap of Titisee. This place is full of crap gift shops, selling cuckoo clocks and other black forest memorabilia. It has a nice location and if you want tourist shops and eating places this is the place for you.
We also cycled to and walked around Wutach Gorge, a lovely walk although we only did part of it 13k out of 30K. Our excuse for the short walk was the 40K cycle ride to get there. It wasn’t sheer cliff faces as I expected but we might not have got to the dramatic part. This walk did make me start to feel like a nodding dog in an old ford cortina. Everyone we passed (young and old) said “hallo” (occasionally guten tag or similar) and the path was busy, every time I say hallo I nod my head. One kid marched up to us and set off with his German question to which in my best German I replied “ich verstehe kein deutsch” I have no idea why his parents fell around laughing!
Stellplatz was a car park with services €10 a night plus extra for electric and water.
