Saumur

Nice small town with a chateau on the hill. The gardens around the chateau are free to walk around, although they are not really gardens, just grassy bits, but they offer nice views over the Loire valley. The town has a nice square surrounded by some interesting looking restaurants and bars. Mainly this has been a job stop, washing and a few attempts at van repairs, with some shorter walks along the river. The weather has broken, which is a shame, but it’s still dry, just a typical May temperature. The aire was not the best, very narrow spots, under trees, which would be nice in summer, but kept the sun off the van, so we didn’t have the benefit of the sun’s heat in the van. Lots of UK reg’s on this aire, I’m not used to that. There was a campsite next door, which we could have stopped on, but it was €3 more a night, just to have a bit bigger space and a toilet block. We decided our budget didn’t run to that.
