Sant Jaume d’Enveja

We have been to this delta before and really liked it. Lots and lots of birds, so we came back. The site wasn’t as well located but the one we stayed at last time now charges €9 for parking, although they have now improved the site a lot. This time we stayed in Sant Jaume D’Enveja which is centrally located on the delta. It was a free parking area with clean and dirty water facilities. It’s half an hours bike ride to the main parts of the natural park from the aire. We cycled down both days. We were here loaded with big lenses and binoculars. Lots of egrets, both little and great. Glossy Ibis are in abundance, and to think people travel to see our 6 in Earith, here you just see them everywhere. Lots of waders but I’m not good on those smaller brown waders and of course flamingoes, such beautiful birds. Two very pleasant and peaceful days. The visit to the bar went incredibly smoothly, no English was spoken, I got something we wanted, even though the first requested item was not available and an alternative was offered, about which I had to ask some clarifying questions. I came out of the bar smiling. The only issue with this stop was that the wild life decided to visit us, I was awoken on the first night by something eating my nuts. The next day all the storage boxes were rearranged so that all food was in sealed boxes, the table bleached, mice traps laid and the van moved to the road side of the carpark away from the ditch. My hope being that the mice in that ditch knew vans were easy pickings and had been, raided the food and gone home. Three days later and there has been no more signs of mice.
