Saint Quentin
· France
We stopped here a few years ago on the way to Italy. It’s OK, at the edge of town, next to the canal and the swimming pool. It’s €7 a night with electricity so we can’t complain about the price. The town has a nice square but not much else to sell it. The square had a big St Patricks bash on but we didn’t pay to go in. We stayed two nights when the intention was to only spend one night here, but we slept in and got tied up with jobs. We tried to source wheel nuts from a local garage, alas they were the wrong head size. We had lots of phone calls with the garage back home who had failed to fasten our wheels back on when they changed the tyres. As they say it’s not making mistakes that loses customers, it is how they fix them and this garage, so far, is doing well. We also had to pick up sim cards and euros by which time it was too late to move to the next location. As we left St Quentin on the second day we called at the garage and they put the wheel nuts on for us so we now have 5 nuts on each wheel, we just don’t have a wheel brace to fit the new nuts, not that we would try to jack up and change tyres on a 4 tonne vehicle. We also have some wheel nuts being delivered from Cambridgeshire to Metz, our next port of call.
