Rather more industrialised than many of the places we’ve passed through but still a very pleasant afternoon was spent. We started with the Submarine Base which was built during the German occupation. Very stark, utilitarian concrete construction. Ugly but nevertheless impressive in its size. Very nice sandy beach and pleasant gardens with lots of things in flower. Nice cafe in the gardens but left after failing to get served after about 15 minutes (it was starting to get cold.
