Remich

· Luxembourg

Before this stop the only thing I knew about Luxembourg was Fab 208. Remich is on the Mosel river on the border with Germany. The riverfront is very nice with crazy golf and big river boats and lots of restaurants but despite being August holidays it was quiet and dead in the evening. We walked to a nature reserve and wandered from hide to hide for a day, a pleasant day. The only thing different was the number of Egyptian geese. They are everywhere in this area.

We cycled to Schengen where the Schengen agreement was signed in 1985, there is a small museum on the achievements and benefits of the agreement. I felt ashamed to be British and got depressed thinking about what I think are the likely outcomes for our “great” country, but hey ho, maybe we will actually sign up to the Schengen agreement moving forward.

The site was a French style aire €15 including electric and water. It was almost empty as everyone else was parked in a layby 100 metres away for no cost but I don’t like being woken by the police and asked to move on.
