Plitvice and Zagreb

· Croatia

I have spent a long time wondering whether to put this post up and what to say, but life always has its bad times. I drove from Krka falls to Plitvice, as John didn’t feel too well. I checked in and had a wander around the site, Plitvice holiday park seemed a really nice site despite being large. I have to say the staff here are outstanding.

Alas things went badly downhill, John had a major heart attack. Urs (a fellow camper) and myself started CPR, Anatina ( a campsite worker) brought a defibrillator. The ambulance arrived in 20 mins and John was taken to hospital 2 hours drive away. They had 2 stents in him within 3 hours. The next morning I got a taxi to Zagreb, Matthew arrived from Israel just before me and James a little later. The hospital still had covid restrictions in place so we only managed to see John when he was in ICU. He spent only 3 days in hospital. We spent 2 additional nights in a weird but nice hotel while I organised flights and flew home. Zagreb is a noisy working city but I may not have seen its best side. Alas John’s leg was also broken in the incident which further complicated things.

Bertie was recovered by The AA using a compassionate recovery service that they do and is also now back home.

I have to mention again the campsite, they were magnificent, looking after the motorhome for me, emptying the fridge and stupid things like that, without any charges.

I urge you to get on a first aid course, doing mouth to mouth trying to remember what you were taught 30 years ago is not good.

And finally I have to mention again Urs and Anatina. They saved John’s life.
