Orasac, Dubrovnik

April showers brings May flowers. If the flowers are as intensive in Croatia as the April showers it’s a shame we will miss them. Our time in Dubrivnik has seen many storms, intensive rain, impressive lighting, and then back to nice sunshine. When the sun has shined it has been really quite nice. We stayed on a smaller (but still ACSI) site in Orasac, one of my favourites so far in croatia and only €15 + tourist taxes. It was terraced so we had a sea view. The site is about 20 mins from the old town of Dubrovnik and the bus is right outside the campsite. The bikes remained locked in the garage, Croatia doesn’t do ridable cycle paths, the drivers are crazy and the only route was on the main road. Dubrovnik old town is really nice, but expect to take out a mortgage to cover the cost of anything. Walking the city walls , which totally surround the old town and are still totally intact (although rebuilt many times, including after the war in the 90’s) cost €35 per person. We very nearly didn’t pay but then we decided it was a must do item. We also paid to go up the cable car but only up, we walked down the cost was just getting too much. The other thing we paid for was a 3 island boat trip, two nice little island ports and the third to one of the few sandy beaches, given the sun was shinning I had my first sea swim of the year. The boat trip was very charming, the sun was shinning and it felt a lovely relaxing day. We did two day trips (see post on montenegro and mostar) and then had a day doing jobs, fixing the leaking tap (again!), changing my bike tyre, washing and finally swimming in the beach below the campsite. I really should have been in the sea before now, it’s not that cold, just somewhere between cold and freezing. We turn the van around and head for home now. We have only about 6 weeks to get home.
