The drive to here was not as easy as it should have been. Seven times we had to stop on the motorway in a 3 hour transfer! 3 were to buy a toll box (DarsGo) , we were sent from one place to another, 1 was to see why the toll box wasn’t working (more details on the tolls blog). 2 stops because the engine went into “limp home” mode, much more worrying. 1 stop to eat lunch, which was perfectly reasonable. This was a big campsite, 5 swimming pools, none in working order as it’s still out of season, restaurant, shop etc €23 on ACSI card. It’s on an island with great sea views although it looks more like a lake. It’s a very rugged coast, with sharp rocks and sharp prickly bushes everywhere, but if you ignore the oil storage tanker on the mainland, it’s very scenic and pleasant. Alas the main factor that impacted this stop was the wind. It was a Bora wind that hit us. 60mph winds nicely rock the van, we turned the van so it was nose into the wind, along with everyone else on the site, put down the stabilisers, something we had never used before and sat it out. As gust after gust hit the van the odd swear word did fall from my lips , at times it was quite scary. But with very little sleep and after 26 hours of blasting we were able to dig the bikes out and see something of the island. Part of the bike ride took us over stunning hill tops, and part into small sea sea ports. All in all a very pleasant if at times bumpy ride. The night after the wind and bike ride I went to sleep, nothing was going to wake me, well ok, not quite, the van was hit by a lesser gust of wind, which caused a hairbrush to fall from the shelve above the bed and strike me in the face.
