Mostar
· Bosnia and Herzegovina
Another day trip. Another stupidly early start. I once went to a pub in Cambridge with a friend who told me somethings about his time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were very unpleasant things, but then he was a charity worker in what at the time was a war torn country. Luckily war has long since stopped but like Croatia the ruins of war are still to be seen. Bosina is a poorer country and that shows from the moment you cross the boarder. It’s all just that little bit more run down and there are more ruined buildings left from the war.
Our first stop was a magnificent water called Kravice Falls on the Trebižat River, Its about 25 metres tall and very wide. My only complaint about this stop was it was too short I would like to have spent more time exploring the park as well as taking snaps of the waterfall. Then it was onto Mostar. This town, like many has a river down the middle of it, which you cross by a bridge. The bridge was built in the 16th century, but destroyed in 1993 during the war, it was rebuilt in 2004. The main thing about the town being split in two by the river is that the Muslims live on one side, the Christians on the other. One side looks like a typical middle eastern bazaar for tourist, all you middle east tourist tack is on sale. On the other side it’s more “normal” tourist tack. Only tourists do these narrow streets of the old town, on the day we were there those trousirsts included lots of military officers and we were made to stand aside while they posed for selfies on the narrow streets and bridge. If your in the area I’d recommend a visit.
