Mont-roig Bahia

· Spain

A typical campsite stop (€20 with ACSI), miles away from any towns and hemmed in by a busy road. A place where your are expected to sit on the beach, leave the kids in some holiday club and drink yourself silly. Of course it’s out of season so the site is almost empty and most of the facilities are closed, although we did make use of the gym and wellness centre( Jacuzzi, sauna etc) and we did walk along the beach. We cycled along the coast to Tarragona, I had in my mind that Tarragona was a large popular seaside resort but it was a scruffy front not touristy at all. We didn’t make the town we had lost heart by then (we’d already cycled for 2 hours a lot through industrial zones on dual carriageways) , but it did have a cracking Roman amphitheatre which unfortunately was mainly closed for restoration but we still got a good look at it. On the way to Tarragona we cycled through Cambrils which at the weekend was a lively little seafront town, with all the Spanish out for their weekend long-lunch treat. A pleasant enough place that we returned the next day to wander the bars and shops and pass an afternoon soaking up the atmosphere. One day we cycle to Hospitalet de l’Infant, an urbanisation as they call them here, I’m sure in summer this would be a nice place, in winter it is closed.
