Marone (Lake Iseo)

· Italy

The site was on the edge of the lake with an advertised ASCI price of €20 but they charged us €22 plus taxes, they said because of the size of the van. Nice little campsite, pool was small but you could swim in it, the site had a climbing wall.

We arrived in thunder and rain which lasted until early evening, but this gave us a chance to not do anything for a bit. After a well earned rest, the next day we were back to an activity filled day in the form of a delightful paddle across to the island Monte Iseo and generally around the immediate area of the campsite, picnicking on the island and including an ice-cream stop in the afternoon. Once back at base we cooled off with what has become a daily swim on this campsite run. In the evening we walked up the hillside to take in the view of the lake, a very worthwhile exercise.

With the German Pentecost holidays and all the campsites being full we were organised and booked the next site in advance which was a shame as I would have liked to have stopped here longer, but we felt we had to honour our commitment to the next site. Of the three lakes (Garde, Isoe and Maggiore) Iseo is by far the nicest.
