This was a one night stop. 0€ camping with electricity in a car park on the edge of town with views over the town and eventually out to sea. There is only 1 thing to do and see here (according to the website) and that is the palace. If you are ever near Lisbon ignore the website, go to the palace. Built in 18th century it has a basilica on the front centre courtyard, one of the nicest I have seen and than a palace with 2 towers built around it. A total of 1200 rooms, it is huge and nicely displayed to the public. It took us nearly 3 hours to get around the “few” rooms it had open. The hospital for the monks being a nice different element to this palace and church, given a little insight to life in the monastery included in the palace.
Royal Palace at Mafra Royal Palace at Mafra Chapel at the Royal Palace at Mafra showing 2 of the 6 organs. The king had music for 6 organs specially written. The crescendos must have been an experience.
