The camping was a car park (€5 + metered electricity and water), in a suburb of Germany. We came here for the Rhine falls which are in Switzerland but an easy bike ride from here. We set off on a 50k bike loop but we spent so long at the falls that we cut the ride to 35k and still only just got back before dark.

The Rhine falls are the largest waterfalls in Europe. They are 150 metres (490 ft) wide and 23 metres (75 ft) high [source wikipedia]. If you are in this area you have to do the Rhine falls, Tracey says so. We watched the boats that go to the foot of the falls and decided some things just have to be done so we took one that went to the rock in the middle and allowed you to go to the viewing platform on said rock. I loved the way the boat headed directly into the falls and then ferry glided into the eddy behind the rock in order to land, he made it look easy. We also visited the town of Schaffhausen which was a pleasant Swiss town with lots of ornate and fancy buildings.

The Rhine is a mass of genteel flowing turquoise (expect where it plunges over the falls) and brings a smile just to see that sliding down the valley.

The other point of this stop was to get the hole in Bertie’s outer skin fixed. We had patched it over but rain which persists in falling was getting behind the patch. Alas the motorhome place we went to didn’t do “plastic” wall repairs and provided us with the name of a different company.
