La Pola Llaviana

· Spain

We turned inland after Oviedo towards what we thought were going to be small quiet towns in the hills. It turns out that we got that a bit wrong and we were driving down a valley with lots of larger towns and heavy industry, although a lot of towns, including the one that we stopped at, were old mining towns and these days a little down at heel. The area was around the back of the sports centre which now the outdoor pool is closed looked a little sorry for itself. However in the evening we walked into town and found that La Pola Llaviana was surprisingly attractive with lots of open air cafes in the square by the town hall. People like to live outside in Spain.
