Well that is almost the end. We have done our 3 months, so we can’t return to Europe for a little while. Thank you Brexit voters! We are in a car park for motorhomes on the side of the reservoir. I’m sat looking at the water, the baby ducklings and the hills in the evening sun while writing this. The frogs and insects are calling, the magpie is croaking and the cow bells in the distance are jingling. It’s lovely and warm and I am very sad. There is nothing here, which is not totally true but it’s my type of place. About 10 minutes walk away there are 2 restaurants, in the other direction there is a bread shop and in yet a 3rd direction there is a bird visitors centre. We called in the bird centre and had a long chat with the lady. The birds here have changed. Gone are the nightingales and warblers. In fact the list of most likely birds to see are what I would see in Earith. Like the change in birds the landscape and vegetation has also changed yet again. It’s meadow land here with lots of herds of grazing mares with foals. We cycled the 60K around the reservoir, admiring the snow covered mountains in the distance. The villages on the far side of the reservoir are lovely, small, nice big houses in good condition with big roof overhangs for the snow. You can ski in this area at the correct time of year. This side where the more major road is there are a few derelict mills, signs of a time past but still lots of character. I would happily move here and I did find myself mulling the idea over. Time plods on, next move is Santander and the ferry back to England. To help lift my mood I just have to remember that in a weeks time,I will be away in Bertie, working for 10 days, knee deep in mud, digging holes, in an old Roman fort, I hope the weather is this good.
