Kotor and Perast
· Montenegro
This was only a day trip, and we went on a coach trip. I’m never convinced you can say you have done a country if you don’t spend a night there and go to the supermarket. Bertie is not insured for Montenegro, I’m sure that the insurance company would have updated the policy for a suitable fee, but then we’d have had to check all the other bits we do when going to a new country and the trip seemed to make sense to us. The tiny bit we saw was very pretty, not surprisingly, very similar looking to Croatia. First we stopped at Perast a small, waterside resort lined with sea front restaurants. Then it was a boat to a man made miracle island (why make one when this place is full of island?) Apparently someone found a statue of Mary and Jesus on a rock so they built an Island, and every year they hold a festival where they add more rocks and tourists flock to it to the island. We didn’t pay the entrance fee for the church but took some snaps and queued for the loos. If you go to Montenegro you can miss this island, look at something else instead. The boat then went to Kotor, where we enjoyed the most boring and uninformative guided town tour that I have ever done. Luckily it only lasted 20 minutes. Kotor is a very pretty old town, lots of narrow streets, walls to walk around, sea and mountain views to look at. Worth a visit. We only did the old bit of town, I assume there is a new bit as well, but time pressed on. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and with two nice towns, the drive through nice country and a boat.
