Heidelberg June

This is our 5th visit to Heidleberg. We came for Matthews wedding celebrations to Anya. I’ll do a separate post on that. We spent 9 nights at Heidelberg campsite. The campsite was fine, the vans were packed in , we were parallel to the river, so we had good views but very little room for the table and chairs before we tumbled into the river. We had guests which made this a problem. The showers and toilets were clean and functional. The price was excessive, English campsite prices (35 euros). Watching the river go by is mesmerising and the shipping barges are huge. The campsite was full of Scots,John tells me there was a football competition on. Apart from wedding stuff we went for a bike ride to Hirschhorn, a nice ride along the Neckar and Hirschhorn is a pretty little town, well worth a bit of a stroll and a beer. We also rode to Dilsberg castle on the recommendations of a friend and spent a pleasant little while wandering around there. Of course we did the castle in Heidelberg a few times, one time was me acting as Tracey’s stingy tours guide, taking my friends to the main sights but not actually paying to go in anywhere. We spent lots of time with Matt and Anya, had friends around for tea one night, and went to a friends for tea the another night. It was strange being in a foreign country and knowing so many people. The van is now laden down with lots of Matthew and Anya’s belongings as they move to the States in Autumn. I do hope the van is still under the weight limit but we purposely packed light knowing we would be carrying stuff home.
