Heidelberg

How lucky can you feel? I sat in the main church in Heidelberg listening to an orchestra play Bruckner. Matthew flanked by Anya on one side, John flanked by James on the other. We were only missing Cameron. I felt incredibly lucky. A little earlier every air raid alarm in northern Israel had been activated. Israel and the surrounding areas are at war with massive amounts of lives lost. Matthew and Anya moved to Heidelberg from Tel Aviv 6 weeks ago! A lot of their belongings and more importunately friends are still in Tel Aviv. Anya still works in Tel Aviv although seconded to Heidelberg. Bearing in mind John’s heart attach 5 months ago I personally have a lot to be thankful for.

We were in Heidelburg to visit Matthew and Anya. John and I stayed in a hotel, James in Matthews flat. The hotel was 40 minutes walk from the centre but it was cheap and clean. It was a room, I never know why people like stopping in hotels. Matthew flat is very nice but he only has it for 3 months, it’s provided by the university to ease moving processes.

We’ve been to Heidelberg in Bertie, my second impressions of the town was much better. We did lots of stuff, a free city walk, the castle, drinks on the hills side above the castle (Matthew works just a little further up from where the tourist funicular finishes) and the long walk back down (three days later my calfs still ached). The electric boat on the river and in the evening board games.

The weather was forecast at a very unseasonable 22 -27 but the forecast got it wrong and the temperature plummeted on the last two days. We walked home one evening in a t-shirt the next day it was autumn, and my coat was in England.

I suspect we will be going back to Heidelberg soon, very soon.
