Switzerland has pinched all the nice scenery and keeps it to itself. If you like mountains you will like Switzerland. Its that sort of scenery that brings an uncontrolled smile to you face. Of course so far we have not done much of Switzerland and this post is about our first stop.

The campsite did ACSI discount in July, 25CHF, with a nice swimming pool that they didn’t close so you could swim in the evening and have the pool to yourself. This month has been so expensive on campsites and we have only just hit high season. Many of the sites we looked at in Switzerland were want 50CHF a night (over £40) and there are very few parking places (aires/sostas). I do not think we will be spending long in Switzerland which is a shame as it really is beautiful.

We biked up the Maggia valley which has amazing views and being a Sunday all the locals were enjoying the river. All of this was on well maintained bike paths. Switzerland is a wealthy country and it shows.

We also walked to the Ponte Tibetino. The first attempt failed as the heavens opened. After 30 mins of sheltering in someones garage we gave up and returned home as 2 drowned rats. The second attempt we made it to the bridge, this was an arduous climb up the hillside with little respite but the bridge is worth it. It’s a suspension bridge and the scariest bridge I have crossed but you settle into it after the first minute – see the photos. The walk back down was nearly as bad as up and I returned home with numerous blisters.
