Goldau

· Switzerland

Goldau is in the canton of Schwyz, the hills are not quite as high as in Ticino, but high enough. Really Switzerland has stunning scenery.

Getting here, we went through the 5th longest road tunnel at 16.198K (source wiki) built in 1980 and was the longest road tunnel until 2000 when Norway built what is currently the longest.

Unfortunately whilst here we lost Bertie’s awning. We rather stupidly left it out and went for a bike ride and a bad storm blew up,ripping the awning completely off the van. The mounting bolts and plates were forced straight through the multiple layers of the motorhome wall. At the minute it is patched up with Gaffer tape and part of the plastic awning cover but we need to get the holes filled fairly soon (probably in Germany as Switzerland is so expensive). A replacement awning may have to wait until we get back to the UK.

This is walking and cycling country so that is what we did. We did a relatively short walk (16K) but with nearly 1000m climb. This was a beautiful walk, if a “little” hard during some of the climbing. The ride we did included touched on 3 lakes.
