Gibraltar – Chris’s Wedding

· Gibraltar

I never gate crashed a wedding before. I believe you can’t be stopped from attending weddings. My brother told lots of people he was getting wed in Gib. If people wanted to attend then that was up to them. 18 people turned up, John and I were part of that number, as was my other brother and his wife. The wedding, which took 10 mins, went smoothly with a few tears being shed by the bride and groom during the vows. I think they have been together about 30 years. It was all rather nice. Following the wedding suitable quantities of food and drink were quaft in variuos locations around Gib. In total we spent 3 days drinking and eating in sundry groups, and had a rather slendid time, meeting lots of good people.

This trip to Gib has improved my view of the place, maybe because I “used” the town more. We did of course walk up the rock, out first attempt was stopped at a pay station where we were asked for £30 each, but the attendant advised us that after 7pm it was free, so it became an evening walk to the top later in the day. We also walked to Europa point and spent an hour or so sleeping in Catalan beach.

We flew to Gib, what I didn’t know was that lots of planes don’t manage to land due to wind. The pilot saying things like, “we hope we can land when we get to Gibraltar” and then ” we think we are going to be fine to land, we are going to try it anyway” make for an interesting touch down. The host told us planes are only allowed 2 attempts at landing. The next morning we watched my brother’s flight from Gatwick circling while the Heathrow flight (also carrying wedding guests) had a couple of attemps. The Heathrow flight decided to see how the Gatwick flight managed. Having (apparently) made eveyone put all their stuff in the overhead lockers, nothing was allowed to be loose, the Gatwick floght touched down with no issues, so the heathrow flight not to be outdone had a thrid succesful attempt. Someone on the Heathrow flight told me they are not flying again. Something to consider if you ever fly to Gib, that might be why the flights are at least 4 times the price of flying to Malaga.
