Florence

· Italy

My memory of my last trip to Florence was that it was closed. That was 30 odd years ago and then we visited during the main August holidays. It certainly wasn’t closed this time, absolutely heaving with people. We were going to do the Uffizi and go see David in Galleria dell’Accademia and I knew we had to book in advance, unfortunately just not how far in advance so we didn’t get in. Still we saved ourselves a lot of money. I can see why people like Florence. It is a pretty town with lots of life. The cathedral is incredibly ornate on the outside, but my recommendation is that you don’t bother to queue to go inside, it’s not worth it. It was a cold April day when we did Florence and I had to dig out the winter coat, and we had plenty of thunder storms thrown in to make sure we stayed nice and wet. The Sosta was a tram ride from the centre and was literally just a car park, but quiet enough (so long as the night club wasn’t in session, which it wasn’t) , I think we paid about €18 a day but it was an hourly charge and got complex.
