Dormelletto (Lake Maggiore)

· Italy

OKish campsite on Lake Maggiore but cheap (for this area) at 18€ a night ACSI price, plus taxes. We stayed a couple of days longer than intended owing to the forecast heatwave – we were nicely in the shade and next to water. In the end we didn’t get the forecast 40C only about 34C but hot enough. We had a couple of enjoyable paddles in the kayak, which enables you to see the lake and it’s surrounds and appreciate the beauty you have around you. Lake Maggiore is huge, not as pretty as Lake Iseo, but nicer than lake Garda. Ruined by not being able to get to the lake side unless you’re in one of the private establishments, or one of the few public beaches. One day we cycled to the nearby Lake Orta which is a lovely lake and spent some time in Orta San Giulio swimming in the lake and eating the obligatory ice cream,

When we arrived at the campsite the reception was closed for the standard 3 hour lunch break and we had to park in the car park and wait. We opened the windows at the front and sat down to eat lunch. Then looked on in alarm as the passenger window slowly fell inwards. Apparently something is missing/broken in the runners of the sliding window mechanism. Fortunately it didn’t break and we reattached it but we need to watch out for it in future.
