Only 1 hour from home, this was a short visit for no good reason. It’s close to Snettisham RSPB reserve famous for it’s knot spectacular, which due to some bad calculations on my behalf we missed despite getting up at 6am to see it! We did see lots of superb birds as you’d expect at this reserve: spoonbills, knot (just not millions in murmuration), curlew, marsh harriers, plovers, etc and lots of muntjac and hares. We did a walk along the sea front and a cycle ride to castle rising, stopping to have coffee at the kings place on the way back. Very nice coffee it was too although he served us in paper cups.

The campsite was OK, the welcome less so. The lady read out the rules to us checking that we understood each rule and highlighting key words as she went along and then warning us that security would be around to check compliance. The toilet decorations were horrendous and with music blasting out so loud I started to take earplugs. The other really strange thing about this site was it played bird song on speakers hidden in the bushes. Given the sound was of the alarm calls of blackbird and robin, I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to sound nice or keep birds away, it seemed to work at the latter. Not by any measure my favourite site, but not the worst either.
