Cartagena

I heard good things about Cartagena from various sources. We were on a site right on the edge of the town, so a fair bus ride in, but the buses were regular. Of course every bus we catch the more we expose ourselves to covid. We didn’t cycle because the weather was so bad. The old town is nice, they have pedestrianised the shopping area and have a nice port area. This is a port town and cruise ships dock almost in the centre of town. The navy have a strong presence as well. Also docked was a rather large yacht, I couldn’t help wondering who owned it and if it was sanctioned! We did the roman amphitheatre , well you have to don’t you? We also did the civil war air raid tunnels, this was particularly poignant as I couldn’t help thinking of the people in Ukraine going through the same sort of experiences. I will never understand the driving forces behind wars. We did a fair bit of sitting in bars as the weather continues to be awful! Lots of roads are flooded according to the locals. The rain just keeps coming. It is reasonably warm at around 16C but the rain spoils everything. Also the wind is bringing in sand from the Sahara desert so everything is covered in red sand.
