We fixed the door of the van, cleaned out the mouse dropping, and did an extensive search for the little critter. I really don’t want to share my bed with them again! Then we were off. I had decided to give up my motorhoming days but well, I’m having second thoughts. The New Forest was our destination. Wow, this is so nice in its autumn splendour, it’s alive with colours, golds, red, and oranges in a multitude of arrays that fill the eyesight. The birds are migrating now so fieldfare and redwing are amongst those to be found with the common birds. I also spotted bullfinch, grey wagtail, jay and marsh tits, all uncommon sightings for me. Oh and lots of thrush.

The areas around all the many car parks are full of people. I do have to wonder just how busy this area is in summer, but on a nice autumn day , and we had really nice weather, this is a rather gorgeous area.

We did two walks, one we took a homemade soup with us and sat under a tree where the ravens were chattering to each other. Both walks were very pleasant, very freeing. Off the main tracks you don’t meet many people at this time of year. I was surprised at how flat the area is.

We also did a cycle ride, taking in Lyndhurst, buying a replacement sitting mat from the campsite shop, we bought the originals from the same shop many years ago!

The site is a medium sized caravan club site with the usual tear making price tag. it was full! It’s in the middle of the forest, cattle grids at the entrance to keep the horses out, but the deer graze the grass and the owls hoot at night.
