Oh dear, when I awoke I realised I was in a lot of pain, standing was something that proved very hard to do. I have no idea what I have done, but my back is not in a good state. Because of my back John did all the jobs and all the driving, he’s wonderful. The aire is 14 euros, including electricity, expensive compared to what we have been paying, and no toilet block. It’s in the Somme valley, with lots of ponds and water channels all over the place. It means the motorhome park is surrounded by water, with its bird life, frog song all night long and beauty all around. Not a bad place to have to do very little in. It’s the sort of place you would travel to with a picnic and spend the day lazing around. Actually most people sitting around had fishing rods rather than picnics, although on Saturday the place became a big boules competition pitch. On the first full day here I decided I was up to a cycle ride, so we cycled down the canal. So long as I don’t try and straighten my back I’m sort of ok. For us it was a short cycle ride, but at least it got us out. This is a beautiful part of France, although flat. You don’t have to go far to do WWI history, but we didn’t, mainly because of my back. We spent some time trying to decide whether to stay a third night or move on to the coast, but the pull of the coast is always strong for us. So John packed the van and drove it on to our next stop, alas the crossing back to the UK is only a few days away.
