Benicàssim

· Spain

This is one of our longest stops ever, 8 nights! Benicàssim is a very popular destination with the British old folk in winter. The site is wobbling with them, people are easing out of their motorhomes onto mobility scooters or walking frames and setting off into the sun each day. It does show we can keep this travelling lark going for at least another 30 years. Benicàssim is a Spanish resort town, long promenades mainly lined with high rise holiday flats, a lively town at night when the Spanish come out to play, and all backed by fantastic hills (once you have cleared the high-rise flats).

We had some nice walks along the beach, purchased a bottle of hand sanitiser, walked to a ruin castle in the hills, a stunningly beautiful if a little difficult. I fell twice on the loose rocks coming back down. We also cycled into the hills with it’s smile-inducing views. And we ate and drank a lot given that James was here and it was John birthday weekend.

So why stay here so long? James came to stop with us for a long weekend. On top of that we came down a few days before James arrived so we could meet with neighbours from home. Then we realised that the 7th night was free. And the 8th night was because we got up too late and decided not to rush. If I’m honest we spent the time in bed deciding if we should return home. I’m not concerned about getting Covid-19 but I am concerned they will put either Spain or the UK in lockdown and we will be unable to return home and keep to our commitments.
