Barmouth August

· England

Back again at our friends caravan, for a week this time. Once again Earith is baking in the sun, while we shelter from the rain in Wales. Wales is green for a reason, plants need water and they certainly get it here. One day when it rained we decided to get the Ffestiniog railway, a beautiful little train ride through the even more beautiful Welsh hills. It is very expensive, way too expensive to be justifiable except from the fact that people like me and the other 100 or so on the train will actually pay it. One advantage of going on a day when it has rained a lot is that, after you have wiped away the mist on the windows, you see the waterfalls in full force. These looked so good that the next day we drove up and walked around the waterfalls, in the sun.

One key accomplishment of this stop was that we walked in Barmouth town, that is via the hilltops not the direct route along the roads. Only 9 miles but a lot of uphills, and on the way down more choughs. The reason why I highlight this walk is that we had tried to do it last autumn, but John still wasn’t fully recovered from his heart attack and we abandoned it when his pulse got way too high. This time his pulse looked like he was doing a leisurely stroll, it was mine that was pumping hard, but then he is still on lots of meds.

On the last couple of days our friends (the owners of the static) joined us, and we had a well overdue chin wag.

Once again our thanks to our friends for the use of their van.
