We stayed on another nice campsite (€16 + taxes with ACSI) in Avignon. I may have to change my views on campsites. The reason for the campsite was because nearly all the aires in this region report break-ins on a regular basis. The campsite was on the island of Barthelasse which is about 20 mins walk to the popes palace in the centre of Avignon. The popes palace is the main attraction and worth a wander around. Nine popes “ruled” from here in the 14th century. The town is a typical small French town with narrow streets to wander around. We also cycled 28K to Orange to see the roman amphitheatre. As always with these buildings it was covered in scaffold, but worth the visit. The audio said the stage wall was stunning, but I’ll have to believe the guide as this was the bit that was under renovation. Some vandals decided to lob rocks (6 inch diameter) down into the amphitheatre while we were wandering around, I think the words shouted by the French people below were probably choice words. The cycle ride was lovely, through farms of fruit trees and vegetables, of course it was completed in the dark. I think we saw an Eagle but didn’t have a positive sighting. We also met with a friend and had a great day with him and his family. It was lovely to see him.

Weather max 24 and very pleasant.
