Anagni

· Italy

Anagni is hill town with lots of history. Many Roman emperors spent their summers there. Four popes came from Anagni. One of then, Boniface VIII, famously fell out with the French King Philip IV who sent troops to Anagni to capture the Pope. We chose it not because we knew about the history but because it was a free sosta, and just over 1 hour from Rome, it was another car park, next to the cemetery but this one had a view when it wasn’t covered by clouds . It’s a nice little old town with lots of winding narrow lanes, unfortunately one of these narrow lanes is also the main road through the town and you’re constantly having to step to the side to allow the car to squeeze past. The first day we where there if rained, it always seems to rain about 5pm in Italy, so we saw it through speckled glasses. The second day it rained, it was raining when we awoke and was still raining when we went to bed, worse than that the temperature had dropped to a max of 7.5 during the day. We ventured out for lunch to a local bar, who seemed really pleased to have our custom and made up a nice plate of meats and cheeses, not only that it was incredibly cheap. Thankfully on the 3rd day the sun came out and we were able to see just how nice the location was and cycled to Lago di Canterno for a very nice picnic.
