France my view of what I have seen
(By Tracey- April 27, 2018)

We have spent just over 2 months in France and now we head into Spain.  At this rate we will not get to see much of Europe but with working during the week and then a few delays for one reason or another France for 2 months it has been.

I have really liked France, I could certainly live in the country, they are my sort of people.  The French come across as reserved, no loud conversations, and they are so polite. There are sport facilities everywhere, eat your heart out UK.  Big swimming pools, sports complex and cycle paths everywhere. There’s lots of history, and fairy tale walled towns and forts, with cobbled streets and timber framed buildings.  So much to do and see and we’ve not done  a single tour of a vineyard. If you move from the built up areas then you are into quiet lovely countryside and lots of it.

It does have its downsides.  Most of the coast has been spoiled by being built up everywhere with residential buildings, so no nice restaurants and bars in which to sit and look out to sea from. Many of the south coast towns are just holiday flats and harbours for yachts. One harbour to wander around is nice, 50 one after another loses some attraction. Also I have laughed that France is closed. Many towns have been closed on a Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday, and of course lunch time and after 7, which means whenever I’m around it is closed.  It wasn’t helped by doing places in winter as many were just closed for the season.

France is very expensive basically don’t buy anything in France, we have totally broken our budget in every category, but particularly everyday groceries, and lets not mention camping car shops, were we have decided simple to go without things.

I will be back to France (if nothing else as we head home in autumn)
